Lecture: "Save Our Ship!" The sinking of the Titanic and its lasting influence on American radio

In 1912, the ocean liner Titanic, on its maiden voyage, struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean and sank into legend, killing hundreds of passengers rich and poor alike. The legacy of the great ship extends beyond the accident itself, however, and is particularly important in the development and regulation of the new technology of radio. While often remembered for the first use of the "SOS" distress signal, the tragic story of the doomed ship and its aftermath is much more complicated.
Dr. Mark Neuzil, a media historian at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, and a Fulbright Scholar at Charles University in Prague, will explain.
