Historický román vypráví skutečný i fiktivní příběh Thomase Cromwella. V roce 2009 získal cenu Man Booker Prize a stal se prvním románem autorky, který byl přeložen do češtiny.

Příběh pokračuje v románu Předveďte mrtvé (Bring up the Bodies Man Booker Prize 2012). Trilogii završí román s názvem The Mirror and the Light.

The book won a Man Booker Price 2009 and is a part of trilogy. The story continues in Bring up the Bodies and The Mirror and the Light.
