American Corners are partnerships between the Public Affairs sections of U.S. Embassies and host institutions. They provide access to current and reliable information about the U.S. via book  collections, the Internet, and through local programming to the general public. Sponsored jointly by a U.S. embassy and a host country organization, an American Corner serves as an information outpost similar to a public library reference service. The multi-media, book and periodical collections are open and accessible. American Center is located in the reading room of Foreign Libraries.

Library holdings

Books in the American Library are divided into subject areas. Each subject area is assigned a so-called 2nd call number – a group of numbers and letters that is part of the label on the spine of the book and is complemented by specific colors for each subject area and the American flag. Books are sorted alphabetically within each subject area according to the three-letter abbreviation in the 2nd call number. The so-called 1st call number is then affixed to the book (front or back). When searching in the ALEPH system, the 2nd call number serves for easy orientation in the American Library collection. When searching in the library, please also pay attention to the orientation labels on the side walls of the shelves and on the individual shelves.

The American Library has approximately 1,500 volumes.
