Borrowing Books, Periodicals, CDs, DVDs ...

We have over four million books and over 3,000 magazine titles. Anyone may study the books and periodicals that are freely accessible on shelves in the building. Only registered readers are entitled to take books home and to order them from the closed stacks.

How to Find…

Most books are located in closed stacks. This means it is necessary to find them through the online catalogue.

Contemporary books and periodicals can be found in the reading rooms by subject (they may be studied inside the library building only):

  • Science and technology reading room / 6th floor
  • Humanities reading room / 4th and 5th floor
  • Periodicals and standards reading room / 2nd floor

Most popular books that may be taken home are located in the open stacks on the 1st floor and ground floor.

How to Borrow...

How to Renew…

How to Return…

Books can be returned at the Registration and Loans counter on the ground floor, at the counters in reading rooms, or in the Bibliobox located in front of the library. The Bibliobox allows you to return books 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Bibliobox is emptied every morning, which determines the time of return. If there is a late fee related to a loan, it will be collected on your next visit.

The loan period is usually one month. Loans may be renewed through the online catalogue provided there is no reservation for the book. If you do not return a book on time, there is a 5 CZK late fee per book and per day.
