Partner representative for MZK: Ing. Petr Žabička

The aim of the project is to explore how Mediterranean cultures were represented  in the travelogues and travel memoirs written in Czech (and old Czech) from the 15th century until 1915, using digital humanities tools: digital mapping, digitisation and big data processing . Natural scientists from the field of geoinformatics and digital cartography will cooperate with Czech, Italian, Spanish, and Croatian literary scholars to create a digital multi-thematic atlas which will outline the routes across the Mediterranean recorded in Czech travel memoirs. The atlas will be interactively linked to a newly created digital library through a range of selected topics. The results of the research will be applied in education, promote further research, and aid the development of cultural competences.
