LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ

Digital Research Infrastructure for Language Technologies, Arts and Humanities (LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ) – programme of Large Infrastructure for Research, Experimental Development and Innovation (Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic)

Since 2019 the Moravian Library in Brno became a member of the LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ large research infrastructure, which acts as a distributed national node of the pan-European DARIAH-EU network. The infrastructure provides archiving, processing, management and accessibility of data, resources and tools for enhancement of research in language technology, arts, humanities and social sciences.

The aim of LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ is to enhance the accessibility and usability of open digital data sets, resources and tools for Digital Humanities. It enables full open access to research in European collections, publications or project results using information technologies and modern research tools. The infrastructure offers a variety of software solutions with an emphasis on digital and interdisciplinary data processing methods, including machine learning methods. It deals with questions of legal research restrictions on copyright or policy making for organizations. It also provides access to similar data from foreign institutions within the international network. It emphasizes the cooperation of research institutions, the scientific community and students in the Czech Republic as well as the rest of Europe.

The role of the Moravian Library in the project is to improve access to digital resources, accompanying metadata. In particular, the library is exporting the content of digital repositories and deploying access tools and standard APIs.

The LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ research infrastructure was initiated by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic by merging of two infrastructures -  LINDAT/CLARIN (Centre of Language Research Infrastructure) and DARIAH-CZ (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities). Significant components of the infrastructure are cooperation between European research institutions, the possibilities of promoting European cultural heritage and research project results to the scientific community at a global level. At the moment 11 research institutions are involved in the LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ project:

  • Charles University in Prague
  • National Library of the Czech Republic
  • Library of the Czech Academy of Sciences
  • Moravian Library in Brno Masaryk University in Brno
