Who Makes Foreign Policy in the United States?

Do you know how U.S. foreign policy is made? Who are the key actors and what is the role of the U.S. Embassy?
Come and discuss with Public Affairs Officer Ray Castillo.

 

  • Ray Castillo became the Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy Prague in August 2014. Most recently, he served as Director of Strategic Communications (StratComm) in Kabul.  He has been PAO in Namibia, Special Assistant to R, PD Desk Officer on the Russia Desk, the Finance Officer and a Consular Officer in Kuala Lumpur and GSO in Ouagadougou.  He joined the Foreign Service in September 2001
  • Prior to joining the Department of State in September 2001, Ray spent 11 years at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), serving as a Public Affairs Officer and as Executive Producer of NASA Television in his final position.
  • He has a Master's degree in international relations from George Washington University, and a Bachelor's degree in history from Middlebury College.
  • Ray is married to Kay DeKuiper and they have two daughters, Gwen (15) and Nell (10).  In his spare time, he dabbles in music and theater, playing guitar and singing.
