African-American Art and visual culture

When: 17:30 / 25. 2. 2014
Where: Conference Room/ ground floor

Speaker: Paul Von Blum is  Senior Lecturer in African American Studies and Communication Studies at UCLA.

Throughout U.S. history, African American artists have produced a remarkable body of paintings, prints, sculpture, photography, murals, and other artistic forms. Many of these artists have combined their creative talent with a vision of the struggles of their people for human dignity and social justice.

This presentation will highlight the accomplishments of several of these men and women, many of whose powerful contributions to American art and culture generally have been underemphasized or ignored in traditional educational, mass media, and art world institutions.

Dramatic visual examples of this tradition will accompany the presentation, especially examples
from the mid 20th century to the present
. In addition, examples from the long and distinguished tradition of African American film will complement the artworks, providing a broader vision of African American creative visual culture.

Admission free

THE PROGRAM WILL BE CONDUCTED IN ENGLISH.
